Walk Down Memory Lane

Work took me to an unusual destination today--Hauz Khas. It has significance in my life since I stayed in Hauz Khas for about three years. It was mostly a very unhappy time and I don't recall ever being happy during those three years. I stayed with my grandparents during this time and one reason it was not such a happy time was because they were usually quiet sick during this period. I lost my grandfather or Baoji within a year of our moving in and then I lost my grandmother just before we were ready to move to my parents present address. Secondly, after staying in Kanpur for the first 14 years of my life, Delhi was a big shock. I just didn't like it and just wanted to go back. My parents were going through their own getting used to the new set up which just added to the angst.

In spite of all this, that it was nice to walk through the lane. Of course the house (which was built by my grandfather) is no longer there. It was painted in soft pink color and had a small area right in front which was used as a kitchen garden. We also had some trees in the backside of the house. First floor had a big courtyard, where we sometimes used to sleep in summers. We used to stay on ground floor with my grandparents living on the first floor. Now it is a cramped structure housing some five-six flats. The market near our house is more or less as it used to be but the park which my grandmother used to visit to meet her friends is now non-existent. There are some buildings in its place, which is sad but expected.

On the whole it was a nice walk down memory lane...
