I rode pillion on our daughter's bicycle yesterday and what a thrill to sit behind when your kid is controlling. When did the equation change? When did it change from my teaching her how to ride to me sitting behind and enjoying the ride while she balanced her overweight mom and navigated the traffic. Totally loved it and look forward to many more such rides. :)
It also brought back happy memories of riding without a care in Kanpur with my friends. I had a chocolate brown color bicycle and every evening (almost without fail) I would cycle with my friends (mostly Ruchi) in the entire township till my mom called me back. There was hardly any traffic in those days and especially so in HAL Township because hardly anybody had a four-wheeler. We had some favorite lanes which were almost totally deserted and we would race. Those were the days...sigh!!
And then there would be some lanes which we avoided or were asked to avoid. I met with a couple of accidents as well. Once some jerk kept on following me for a significant amount of time and in confusion I hit a tree. Unflustered I got up, grabbed my cycle and I don't think I ever rode that fast. That was one of the lanes I avoided and surprisingly, I never saw that guy again.
