I went for `Cocktail' last week. I love the first half of the movie though Saif is irritating and looks old. Second half is stretched and boring.
However, it raises the predictament faced by every girl at some point or the other in her life: Whether to be a good girl or a bad girl. In India being good means getting up at 5 am, praying and fasting for a good husband before preparing breakfast and lunch for the entire family and then pushing off to college where voila! you are the topper. And yes, you also have to be asexual to be a good Indian girl. Wish life was this simple. Being good is okay for a while and you may go in heaven but doesn't work all that well in real life.
Good girls lack the basic necessity of modern day living: being selfish. Nobody will tell you in school books but you have to have a slight (just a little teeny weeny bit) selfish streak. It doesn't mean that you harm others but a bit of a mean streak is important to enable you to protect your turf, both professionally and personally.
Another issue with being good or the character of Meera is that she never ever does let go. And by the way Saif falls for her when she is actually in Veronica mode--drinking and dancing with abandon. There are times when you just need to let go and give yourself totally to the rhythm of life and have a good time.
Veronica's issue, on the other hand, is that her life seems totally out of control. But lets be honest. Veronica's reaction is very normal once she discovers that her boyfriend is in love with her best friend. What was Saif expecting: that she will kiss Meera and behave as if nothing happened.
A point not to be forgotten here is that both Veronica and Meera are just too extreme (but I do know people like these in real life).
A good healthy combination of Veronica and Meera would be perfect in real life. But there really is no perfection in real life, is there??
