Am done with Amy Chua's dramatic book and now it is time for my yearly debate. Whether or not I should engage a tuition for my 10-year old. Till now I have avoided putting her in a tuition class. Reasons: I don't believe in them and feel that if the school is doing its job, you don't need a tuition per se. In spite of this I struggle with this question before the start of a new academic session every year. This year is no different.
This year I am almost dying to get a Maths tutor for Khushi. The reason: I have done Maths only till XII standard and that was aeons ago. I find myself ill equipped to answer all her questions and feel she shouldn't suffer as a result of this. Khushi's dad or B is good in Maths but doesn't have time to teach her. So, most likely I will be going for a tutor this year. This makes me sad, in fact, very, very sad. I think tutors saddle you with more work. So in the end you have to do school home work and then tuition home work.
Khushi's school is doing its job--of teaching the basics but what about practice, what about that little extra. I will be honest. I am so bad in Maths that I struggle to give her practice sums also. So in the end, poor kid ends up doing school book sums for God knows how many times.
I wish I could avoid it but now the time has come to take a bow and give the job to the professionals. I seriously can't do it without getting a tutor to teach me first. LoL
