Shopaholic

I think I am slowly turning into a shopaholic…I should correct myself here, turning into online shopaholic. I generally casually log on to fashionandyou.com or zovi.com or jabong.com and start my window shopping. Then I slowly start checking the sizes. The next step is to casually ask my work neighbor (or my husband if I am at home), “Do you think this will look good on me?” Work neighbor generally reacts with a mock despair which says, “No, not again.” She generally replies with, “No, I don’t think so,” but sometimes she would respond with a bright happy smile, “This is cool and I think you should go for it.” At this stage, I should let you know that I have requested the work neighbor to always respond in negative to this question and has asked me to return the favor as well. Of course there are exceptions to this rule. At home I generally browse on my phone while watching television.

The thing about online shopping is that you don’t realize you are spending money…at least not until you take delivery and pay in cash. There have been instances in the last two months when it has actually slipped my mind that I had purchased something until that something arrived on my doorstep.

I got hooked on to online shopping about four months back. My first purchase was Allen Solly shirt at half the price. Since it was a reputed brand and I knew my size, I didn’t think twice before clicking on `add to cart’. Another reason was cash on delivery clause. I am extremely uncomfortable using my credit card or debit card on the net. Besides, I am not a huge fan of spending my Saturday evening at a mall, which involves waiting for 15 mins to park my car and then standing in a queue for 10 mins to try an outfit. Online shopping is much more user friendly and comfortable. No wonder I was hooked.

I have bought various things online ranging from shirts, tops, jacket for my daughter, kitchen cutlery. Initially I used to give my mom’s address for delivery but then she mentioned that she was taking too many deliveries for me nowadays. I am at some level still scared of my mom, so I promptly changed the delivery address to my office.

I have spent considerable amount on online shopping (much more than what I would have done in the virtual world) in the last three months. What to do there is always some or the other unresistable deal on some or the other site. But now I think it is time to slowdown or rather I am happy to inform that I have slowed down. I haven’t purchased anything since March 10 and it is not for want of temptation. I resist and resist till the product is (alas!) sold out.
