The much awaite winters have arrived in Delhi...there is chill in the air, nights are longer and the weather is now perfect to go out in the sun. We decided to visit National Museum of Natural History today. We armed ourselves with camera, refreshments and looked forward to spend the day out.
We were in for a surprise. NMNH was a big disappointment. Exhibits were clearly old and lacked freshness. The worst of all was the eerie atmosphere. My kiddo didnt leave my arm throughout the time we spent there. There were hardly any visitors except some foreigners who seemed to be wondering why are we here exactly? I didnt take a single picture during the visit and that says a lot. At one point, my nine-year old made a face and said, "Mama, there is a weird smell coming." Not just smell, the damp air, the old exhibits, the tried and tested diagram, the unfunctioning audio system...everything my dear was weird. It just seemed too
thaka hua. I remember visiting the museum as a kid and it used to be fun. The problem is that after all those years, the exhibits have remained the same and the kids are used to much more technology in life. Anybody who has visited Gandhi Smriti at Birla House would know. The museum has done a damn good job of incorporating technology to explain the Gandhian principles/theories to small children. We need more such efforts.
Anyway, we ended up spending just about 40 mins at the museum. Post that we decided to head to the tried and tested deer park. Here are some pics of the day:
