Believe it or not I got a chance to travel to Singapore for work. For last two days I am in Singapore and though I am not a big fan of this city, there are some things I do admire. Here are some snippets from the trip:
1. The sky is blue. Yeah...dont be so shocked now. Everybody knows the sky is not blue but grey in Delhi. So it was good to see the refreshing and happy blue colour of the sky.
2. I asked the hotel reception for directions to the famous Orchard Road and asked her by what time is it safe to be back. The last part was just automatic. Being an Indian women it just came naturally to ask her this. She looked at me as if I had landed from Mars and said, "This is Singapore ma'am. It is perfectly safe at any time of day or night." The pride in her voice was palpable and I stared at her in total and absolute envy.
3. At the airport while check in an Indian woman comes and asks if I can check in a part of her luggage so they could avoid paying excess baggage taxes. I was visibly shocked and asked her that it is just not possible. Sigh!! When will we learn...
And now is the time for me to start the boarding process. See you in Delhi!!
