Nietzsche's Weeping

I mentioned some time back that I was reading When Nietzsche Wept: A Novel of Obsession. Totally loved the book and it had some thought-provoking quotes. Am sharing some of them here:

1. "The richer the soil, more unforgivable the failure to cultivate it." Unforgivable to not to use your intelligence to its maximum potential. We all should and must strive to realise the full potential of our intelligence.

2. "Living safely is dangerous...dangerous and deadly." I feel we all agree in theory but it is most difficult to implement. In fact I find it almost impossible to implement. What do you feel?

3. "More in love with desire than with the desired." Doesn't it happen all the time. Maybe the other word for this is infatuation...

4. "We must live as though we are free. Even though we can't escape fate, we must still butt our heads against it--we must will our destiny to happen."

5. "Choose the right enemy." I think this is critically important. Sometimes we aim at the wrong target and then there is absolutely no possibility of winning.

6. "An ideal marriage relationship exists only when it is no longer necessary for each person's survival." I agree with this so so so much. Sometimes women (especially Indian women) believe that the husband has to ensure their happiness. This is so not true. You yourself are responsible for your happiness and the kind of life you want to lead. Marriage will cease to be satisfying if you stop growing as a person.
