Bored but still looking forward to...

I am getting slightly irritated by the 9 to 5 routine and long for a break from it, at least for some time. Don’t get me wrong, I like what I do but I do not like being bound to the routine. I react this way after every two-three years of working full time because I am a freelancer at heart. So invariably after working full time for a few years I start thinking of my job as shackles which bind me to my chair and laptop.

And this time I have actually worked for full six years (I am surprised myself) and it is only in the last month or so when I have started feeling a little (for want of a better word) bored. It was unavoidable I suppose but with age I realize that I it is not exactly a good option to quit the normal work. Few years back in this situation, I would have just quit without much ado banking solely on freelancing. Am smarter now, thank you.
Believe me, freelancing works beautifully if you put in the required effort and are self motivated enough to do so. The problem is the unstable market. I was freelancing for two years and then suddenly recession hit the US market and the pay cheques were affected by as much as 50 percent. So I had to write much more to earn the same amount as I was before the recession. It is situations like these that scare you. And the uncertainty of it all can be nerve wracking. Even so I recall my freelancing stint with fondness. The idea of freelancing can be very alluring, especially so for a person like me, who is easily bored.

I think I will devise a smarter plan to fight boredom this time. The best thing about this profession is that it totally depends on you. If you do not like the situation you are in, you can `write’ your way out of it. If you are bored of doing a particular kind of writing, day in and day out, you can always do the kind of writing that excites you. The situation is totally different if you are bored of writing. That also happens sometimes, but thank God, that is not the case right now. As of now I just need little diversion and some flexibility in my schedule to help me.

I plan to concentrate on my books to fight boredom. You did notice that I wrote books and book. I am writing two right now. One is totally non-fiction and the other is kind of fiction. I hope to finish both of them this year. Will definitely post some parts of them here once they are published. I feel the fiction one would be ready for publication much before the non-fiction one. Let’s see how it goes.
