Well I completed one more year on this planet today. I am 38 years old today and it has such an old ring to it. Sigh!. I don't feel all that old (in hindsight, how exactly are you supposed to feel when you are nearing your 40s).
I cannot believe that my friend whom I haven't met for at least 20 years called me today morning all the way from Canada to wish me birthday. I last met her when I was 15 years or 16 years old. This just made my day. It was amazing chatting with her about all our old friends. There are some relationships which truly stand the test of time.
I also got a message from a friend who was one of my good friends but I hold a grudge against. The relationship hasn't been its usual effervescent self because of what I feel. I know if I let go of the grudge, I will gain a friend back but I find incapable of doing this...
Then you hope and pray for a call from some people who were or are a part of your life but they don't. I wish my friend from college who took my books (I specifically recall Catch 22 and Fountainhead) and vanished. I was particularly close to her and she had a significant impact on my world view. But then she vanished. Why do people vanish without a word? How can they do it? I periodically search for her on facebook, linkedin and orkut and get no insight. I wish, hope and pray she would call or write...
There there are people who hold grudges against you...people who want to call you, will definitely think of you on your birthday but don't for some reason. I myself do it sometimes. I just so want to tell them to let go. It is just not worth the troubles. On this note, I have decided to call my friend mentioned in the third paragraph. :)
