Washington DC Pics

The first thing that strikes you about Washington is that it is full of memorials. Never have I visited a city which has so many memorials built to honor their leaders and people who died in one war or another. We also have had our fair share of wars (remember Kargil, Indo-China War etc) but we have a tendency to forgot the people who died protecting our freedom. In the end there is only one difference between the US and India. To put it crudely and in desi language: Wahan pe bande ki kaddar hai. This is not to say that they do not have problems...they do but the administration and people in general seem to be working for the betterment of their country. Their work for the betterment of the country because they are confident that the country will look after them; they are confident that if the country progresses they also will. This confidence is totally, totally missing in us.

Anyway, here are Washington pics:

We all know this...freedom is never really free

Museum of Natural History at Washington...absolutely a must visit if you care two hooks about natural history

Butterfly exhibit at the museum of natural history is unique but so simple a concept that one wonders why nobody else thought of it. Basically it is a room full of absolutely beautiful butterflies and flowers which you are allowed to enter and observe and photograph. So a butterfly might sit on your shirt, cheek etc for as long as you want and you have to oblige. I have never seen such a riot of colorful, beautiful butterflies...don't miss it if you get to visit Washington DC.
