Groggily I got up from the bed, took 10 seconds to open my eyes and thinking of the day ahead started to wear my chappals. I shrieked as I saw a creepy lizard sneaking by near my slippers. I was wide awake now.
As I carried on with the chores of the day, I forgot all about the lizard. But the creature was back again next day. Early morning as I was walking towards the bathroom, I saw the same lizard with grayish, blackish, greenish and slightly yellowish skin slipping out of the room.
After a while this became a regular feature. I would encounter the lizard always in the first half an hour of getting up in the morning. In fact, I started looking for it every morning. I would carefully look at the floor searching for the lizard for morning greeting. On most of the days, I would spot the lizard and on the days I didn’t see it, I would feel something amiss.
My daughter and I even kept a name for that lizard, Gecko. After some brainstorming, we decided the reason why gecko was in our room every night and why it would sneak away every morning. It is extremely hot in Delhi and clearly Gecko enjoyed the air conditioning in the room. I wonder if it will come in winters as well?
